Frequently asked questions

Does VocaNum require internet access?

No. Normal vocabulary practice, Words, Progress, and local learning history work offline after installation. Apple services such as purchases and iCloud synchronization require their respective network services when you use them.

Do I need an account?

No VocaNum account or VocaNum sign-in is required. Private sync uses the iCloud account already configured on your Apple device.

What is available without Pro?

Core local practice, Words, Progress, reminders, offline learning, learning-data export and deletion controls, and private iCloud sync are available without Pro.

What does VocaNum Pro unlock?

Pro unlocks Pro Precision and its personalized learning experiences, including focused missions and protocol-based guidance built from your learning history, plus Pro-labeled premium practice content such as focused vocabulary packs where shown in the app.

How does private iCloud sync work?

Private iCloud sync is not a Pro-only feature. Open Settings → iCloud Sync. If iCloud is available, use Sync Now when you want to synchronize current learning data, or Restore from iCloud when you want to bring the private iCloud copy back to this device. VocaNum synchronizes supported profile, preferences, vocabulary progress, answer history, score events, and session records through your private CloudKit database. Local learning remains available if iCloud is unavailable.

How do I restore or manage a Pro purchase?

Open Profile → Membership. Use Restore Purchases to ask Apple to refresh purchases. Active subscribers can use Manage Subscriptions to open Apple’s subscription management screen. Monthly and annual Pro plans renew through Apple; Lifetime Pro is a one-time purchase.

How do I reset or delete my data?

Open Profile → Settings → Learning Data. You can export your learning data, reset progress, reset question history, or delete all local learning data. If you also want a local deletion reflected on another device, run a successful iCloud sync after the deletion before relying on the other device’s copy.

What happens if two devices change the same record?

VocaNum merges synchronized learning records using deterministic conflict rules so the same inputs resolve consistently. Local learning is not discarded simply because iCloud is unavailable.

Why did a word’s status or score change?

Correct, incorrect, and “don’t know” responses can affect confidence, review timing, score changes, and whether a word is known, forgotten, or unmeasured.

Which devices are supported?

The current app build requires iOS or iPadOS 18.1 or later.

Troubleshooting

  1. Close and reopen VocaNum.
  2. Restart your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Install the latest compatible VocaNum and system updates.
  4. For purchase issues, try Restore Purchases from Membership.
  5. For iCloud issues, open Settings → iCloud Sync and review the current availability message before retrying.
  6. Use a reset or deletion option only after reviewing its confirmation. These actions cannot be undone through VocaNum support.

If the issue continues, contact support before deleting the app if you want to preserve its current local data.
